Carpik ("we", "our", or "us") operates the Carpik mobile application. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information. By using Carpik you agree to the terms of this policy.

3. How We Use Your Information
- Authenticate your account via phone OTP.
- Match passengers with available trips posted by drivers.
- Display trip locations and enable live tracking during a ride.
- Send push notifications for booking confirmations, cancellations, and trip updates.
- Enable in-app chat between driver and passenger on a shared trip.
- Verify driver identity and vehicle details before allowing trip creation.
- Improve app features and fix issues (aggregate, non-personal analytics).
4. Sharing of Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share limited data only as follows:
- Between users on the same trip: your name, profile photo, and location are visible to the driver/passengers sharing your trip.
- Firebase (Google): our backend infrastructure — authentication, database, storage, and push notifications — is powered by Google Firebase. Data is stored in accordance with Google's Privacy Policy.
- Legal requirements: we may disclose information if required to do so by law or in response to valid requests by public authorities.
5. Location Data
Carpik requires precise location access while you are using the app. Location is used to display nearby trips and to track the active ride. We do not collect location data in the background when the app is closed.
6. Data Retention
Your data is retained for as long as your account is active. Trip and booking history is kept to allow users to review past rides. Chat messages are retained for the duration of the associated trip and a short period afterwards.
7. Security
All data is transmitted over HTTPS/TLS. We use Firebase security rules to ensure each user can only access their own data. We regularly review our security practices.
8. Children's Privacy
Carpik is intended for users aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.
9. Your Rights & Data Deletion
You may at any time:
- Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Request correction of inaccurate data.
- Request deletion of your account and all associated data.

10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, the "effective date" at the top of this page will be updated. We encourage you to review this page periodically. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
